|
Julian made his TV debut with Roy Castle & Acker Bilk when he was just 15. The show featured Julian's teenage dixieland band 'Young Jazz' that included the Sidwell brothers on trumpet & trombone, Paul Clarvis on drums and Andy Cleyndert on bass. At 17 he formed a modern jazz quintet and toured Europe with Dave Cliff, Nick Weldon, Andy Cleyndert and Mark Taylor.
Since then he has played concert and broadcast dates with Peanuts Hucko, Wild Bill Davidson, George Chlsholm, Don Lusher and Kenny Baker and recorded with John Parncelli, Digby Falrweather, Danny Moss, Sam Brown, Roy Williams and Jim Mullen. And! - he's recorded with Marc Almond, The Grid, the Spice Girls and appeared at Wembley Arena with Meatloaf.
Using more of his talents he has written over 30 TV jingles and documentary film scores. He arranged and conducted a recent album for Charles Aznavour and is currently scoring a TV series for ITV.
His major Influences have been Artie Show, Peanuts Hucko, Buddy DeFranco, Eddie Daniels, Oscar Peterson - and Delius! Of the instruments he plays his first love is clarinet and in the opinion of John Dankworth CBE: "Julian is an immense talent, probably the best clarinettist to emerge in British jazz for several decades. His performance has "world class" written all over it. Julian has given a much neglected instrument a truly new lease of life."
Julian Is currently working with the new Digby Fairweather showband and leading his own group, The Dream Band, an exciting and melodic latin-influenced sextet with an eclectic book of originals and well chosen standards.
