Trefor Owen Trio |
|
|
Welsh guitar wizard Trefor Owen is a familiar name to many guitar players and jazz listeners in Hull due to his association with the Keech school of music where for a number of years he was director of jazz guitar studies. He is internationally distinguished as a jazz guitar educator.
Charlie Christian, Johnny Smith, Mundell Lowe and Wes Montgomery have inspired Trefor's playing, and in recent years Pat Martino and Louis Stewart have been a highly significant influence. He has toured and played extensively with a host of leading British and American guitarists such as Martin Taylor, Louis Stewart, Mundell Lowe, Ike Issacs, Adrian Ingram, Dave Cliff, John Etheridge, Jim Mullen, Peter Leitch, Jimmy Gourley and Sal Salvador. Also, he has acted as a sideman for numerous horn players: Dave O'Higgins (who appears on his recent album), Ian Carr, Peter King, lain Ballamy, Spike Robinson, and Alan Skidmore, to name a few. He has toured the UK many times, and appeared at Cork International Jazz Festival. In particular he has had a long association with his good friend and guitar celebrity Mundell Lowe with whom he regularly tours and, in fact, played for Hulljazz last year.
25 year old Andy Hulme has for three years played alongside Trefor at the New York Guitar Show. Andy gave a highly acclaimed performance at the August 2001 North Wales International Jazz Guitar Festival and, more recently, was featured in the presentation, "A Tribute to Wes Montomery" at Theatre Ardudwy, Harlech. Playing with assurance that belies his youth, Andy Hulme is definitely a young man destined for a brilliant future.
Bill Coleman is one of the UK's foremost bass-players. He has accompanied some of the finest jazz talents in the world and has worked as MD for many high profile names including Helen Shapiro. He's also a prolific writer and arranger.
