Benn Clatworthy Trio

  • Benn Clatworthy ~ tenor sax
  • Matt Miles ~ double bass
  • Martin Drew ~ drums

Please note the change from previously advertised personnel.

Benn Clatworthy, although every bit the tenor saxophonist that Joshua Redman is, is one of the most unheralded musicians in the music. English by birth, he is well established in Los Angeles clubs since his move there in 1980. He studied with Ronnie Scott and at Berklee College, USA.

He's a terrific player with great technique and a compelling flow of ideas. Although early inspiration was Coltrane he shows the influence of Warne Marsh and Sonny Rollins. He is frequently compared with Rollins by virtue of his mix of fiery energy, melody and dynamic control. Other influences are Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon, and Booker Ervin.

"...his artistry boasts deep harmonic knowledge & superb technique." - Zan Stewart - Los Angeles Times
