Ben Martin Quintet

  • Ben Martin ~ tenor sax
  • Jami Sheriff ~ piano
  • Tom Mark ~ double bass
  • John Perry ~ drums
  • Pat McCarthy ~ guitar
Ben Martin is a terrific straight-ahead jazz sax player who really goes for it. He means everything he plays and doesn't just sit back and ride on clichés. His talents have also been exploited on the dance scene and he has recently been touring and recording with top charting dance act Groove Armada. He's played several times for Hulljazz over the last few years as part of a quartet led by ace guitarist Pat McCarthy who, as it happens is in this band!.

This gig is a spin off from a project that the band's pianist Jami Sheriff has instigated. They are all part of an eight-piece that Jami is rehearsing for performances to take place around the UK in June. Although still only in his mid-20's, Jami has played with many high-profile musicians including Jim Mullen, Spike Robinson, Bruce Adams, Tina May and Peter King.

Drummer John Perry and Tom Mark on double bass tastefully provide the dynamic support to keep things cooking.
