Alan Barnes |
|
|
Multiple poll winner Alan Barnes is one of the greatest saxophonists and clarinet players the UK has produced. He's also among the most loved and lovable musicians. A terrific versatile player. He plays all the saxes and quite a few clarinets with great virtuosity and his on-stage quips and comments are a delight. And he also plays the solo baritone-sax on Tetley's beer TV commercials!
He's backed by Pat McCarthy's Trio who may not have to travel far to the GF but whose reputation goes much further.
Pat McCarthy is one of the leading jazz guitar players in the North and Midlands, his fluid melodic lines and finely honed sense of harmony have made him a popular choice as guest or sideman with many bands. Early inspiration came from listening to the recordings of Wes Montgomery, Barney Kessel and Django Reinhardt, and in a world of rapidly changing fashions and over-processed sounds, he remains a champion of the pure, classic jazz guitar sound. He has played the guitar professionally for twenty years.
John Perry and Zoltan Dekany, apart from being established members of Pat's various bands are, not surprisingly, regularly heard at the GF in other groups.
