In association with THE HUMBER MOUTH Literature Festival
Paul Taylor performs his own music and poetry in a relaxed jazz club setting, joined by latin percussion specialist Gary Hammond (ex. Roland Perrin, Beautiful South, and now with his world music project The Hut People) and accompanied by The Melody Jazz Trio
From brass bands to big bands, from trad jazz to free improvising, from symphonies to salsa: Paul Taylor's musical journeys have taken him across Europe to Africa, and from the USA to Japan. This rich experience is distilled into "Speech", a trunkful of poetry, bounced along in a free-wheeling solo concert of classic standards, original pieces, and spontaneous compositions.
"Speech" focuses on jazz, paying tribute to the music and musicians that inspired him to turn professional. He also reports back in verse on some of the foibles and farces of life on the road, with a humorous slant that has made trombone poetry welcome at many clubs and cabarets.
