E.A.S.Y. Jazz
Orchestra |
|
About the band: by the Musical Director This great youth Jazz Orchestra was formed in 1977 at Scarborough Area Music Centre. It draws members from along the East Coast between Whitby and Bridlington. E.A.S.Y. stands for Eastern Area Schools Youth. The players, aged between 14 and 19, are a very committed bunch! E.A.S.Y. Jazz has done many festivals in the past, (the most recent being an appearance at the Royal Festival Hall last Friday) including the National Festival of Music for Youth, The National Concert Band Festival, San Sebastian Jazz Festival, (Spain) and the Wigan Jazz Festival. We have been lucky enough to gain various gold Awards, Outstanding Performance Awards etc. over the years. The annual Boyes Celebrity Concert along with workshops at the music centre have seen the band working with jazzers such as Stan Tracey, Martin Taylor, Bobby Shew, Gerard Presencer, David Newton, Andy Sheppard, ex members of the Ted Heath Band, Vocalist Andy Prior etc., etc. The young musicians are tremendously keen and more than a little gifted so I hope you will give them the support they deserve and enjoy the music.
